Title: Hardware Engineering Lead
Location: Buffalo Grove, IL
Travel/Schedule: Standard day-shift hours (Monday - Fri). Less than
10% travel.
Compensation: Target Base Salary -$100K - $115K

Position Description: Company provides top of the line, full and
partial automation solutions for both direct mail and retail
pharmacies. The OptiFill and RIVA service groups provide support
and expertise to the customers on company equipment and product
lines. This is a leadership role focused on continued improvement
of the company's product lines utilizing principles of Lean Six
Sigma and OEE concepts of availability, performance and quality. As
the Hardware Engineering Lead you will be responsible for defining
and improving the software testing and release processes, and
ensuring all new and upgraded products are following the software
development process and standards; you will create and oversee
group policies, procedures, training, and scheduling; and you will
also be responsible for defining and improving the hardware design
process, managing the hardware engineering associates, and ensuring
all new or upgraded products are developed on time and follow the
hardware design process and standards. Some specific
responsibilities include:
PLC Programming for new and existing customer projects. Provide
support from electrical and controls perspective, as needed.
Play a leadership role in driving the company towards products
availability, performance, and quality goals. Implement continuous
improvement process and standards to achieve the goals.
Assign project resources; facilitate the creation of detailed
testing plans and prioritization of work.
Responsible for performance reviews for the team; contributes to a
high-performing team by coaching and developing team members.
Analyze production issues, define and create tools that help
mitigate problems in the system design and integration. Identify
changes that are necessary to maintain optimal system
performance
Develop solutions to monitor software health, perform log analysis,
and automate system recovery.
Perform vulnerability and risk management for designated
systems.
Develop, implement, and maintain tools that are used by internal
engineering and customer service teams as they build, enhance, and
support current and new products.
Prepare system design concepts, create detailed designs, perform
analysis, test prototypes, and document completed designs.
Perform system level design and analysis on products. This includes
concept design and trade studies, including cost and performance,
of electrical, mechanical and software as interrelated systems.
Provide support to Project Managers including mentoring,
escalation, training, performance management. Define the roles and
key steps to ensure consistent content and flow of information to
better manage and prioritize projects as needs are always
changing.
Influence cross-functional stake holders, and hold project managers
and task owners accountable for delivering on time, on budget and
with high quality. Escalate issues quickly and find ways to resolve
them.
Establish documentation standards across all product lines. Ensure
complete standard documentation delivery with each project
completion.
Collaborate with members of interdisciplinary teams to implement
and release high quality, reliable, ergonomic designs to
production, which may include participating:
in the design, requirements specification, coding, verification or
test of software in accordance with internal standards and
procedures.
in the electrical design, analysis, bread-boarding and/or test in
accordance with internal standards and procedures.
in the mechanical design and analysis in accordance with internal
standards and procedures.
Lead the team of professionals that includes Mechanical,
Electrical, Controls Engineers, and Consulting Resources
Provide fiscal leadership and continuous quality improvement
principles and processes to improve quality and minimize
operational expenses.
In order to be successful in this role, you should have at least 3
years' of hands-on engineering experience related to Electronic /
Electrical and computerized electro-mechanical systems such as
robotics, conveyors, sensors and PLCs (specifically RS Logic, Allen
Bradley, Beckhoff and Structured Text). You should have experience
leading/supervising a small team of engineers / technicians, and
display some level of expertise with computers (software, remote
diagnostics, windows-based networking etc). Project Management
knowledge is a plus, as is familiarity with LEAN Six Sigma and
other process optimization tools, as they apply to manufacturing
and engineering.
